International Positioning

International positioning turns a company's real capabilities into a proposition an international buyer can understand, differentiate, and evaluate. It is not a standalone branding exercise; it connects the offer, supporting evidence, and buyer priorities.

01

What it is and what it is not

Positioning is not promotional copywriting or an identity redesign. It is the work of making a company's relevance, differentiation, ideal buyer, capabilities and evidence easier for an international decision-maker to understand and evaluate.

It is GFG's fourth implementation capability, alongside International Evaluation Experience, International Discoverability, and International Inquiry and Follow-Up Systems.

02

The positioning problem

Most Mexican organizations describe themselves to international buyers in the language that works locally. The foreign buyer does not share that context and will not spend time reconstructing it.

03

What we work on

We define the offer, the target decision-maker, the commercial value and the differentiation in evaluable terms, then apply them consistently across the commercial presence.

  • Offer and scope definition
  • Target decision-maker by market
  • Verifiable commercial value argument
  • Differentiation against real alternatives
04

Inside the system

Positioning is the first dimension of the commercial-readiness framework. It is applied inside an Audit or a Sprint, not sold as a standalone service.

International business environment in Mexico.
Positioning is not promotional language: it is the translation of real capability into evaluation criteria.
05

Positioning for two demand contexts

A Mexican company may compete for buyers located outside the country and, simultaneously, for foreign executives, investors, internationally owned businesses and English-speaking clients already operating inside Mexico.

Positioning is not duplicated. It is defined once, precisely, and expressed so both audiences can evaluate it against the same criteria.

06

How we test that it works

Positioning is validated against real evaluation behavior: if an external decision-maker can describe your offer, scope and difference after a minute of reading, it works. If a call is required to understand it, it does not.

  • External-reader comprehension test
  • Consistency across website, materials and profiles
  • Correct English terminological equivalence
  • Differentiation supported by evidence rather than adjectives

Frequently asked questions

Is this branding?
No. Branding addresses identity and perception. International commercial positioning defines what is offered, to whom, with what value and against which alternatives, in terms a buyer can compare.
Can it be engaged separately?
Positioning is executed inside the Audit or the International Positioning Sprint. It is not sold in isolation because its effect depends on the other framework dimensions.
